Don't Compare

We compare what we have to what others have all the time. Or sometimes how many friends we have, what clothes we wear, all of that we want to compare. We just wish our lives looked as amazing as theirs do. We do it both in games, and in real life. We might wish we had a certain clothing item on Animal Jam, that we've been wanting for so long, but our best friend got it before we could. Or maybe it goes even deeper, and we wished we lived exactly how they do.

That's not the way we should live. We were made to live for much greater things. I heard a quote a while ago, that comparison is the thief of joy. It's so true, too. We're so caught up in what we wish our lives could be, instead of just living our lives contently. Without jealousy. Without comparison.

But how do we do that? How do we walk into school, log onto a game, go into an event, go on Instagram, without wishing we could be exactly like our friends, and have everything they have.

It's by a simple saying, that people have just brushed off because we've heard it so much.

Count your blessings.

Remember everything you actually have, instead of what you wish you had. All the stuff we wish we had will eventually fade away, and we'll just think of it as something ordinary, that's always apart of our life. You know how when you got a toy, and you've been wanting it for SO long, and when you finally get it and play with it for a couple of minutes, its just another toy? That's what everything else in this world will be once we finally get it. Just another shirt. Just another makeup kit. Just another, fill in the blank. But what we actually have, we might appreciate more. What we've had the longest could be what we love dearly.

Don't compare. It will only make your life miserable, and will steal all the joy you have. Instead, put your hope in something far greater. That something greater, is Jesus. It's always been Jesus. He's the only One that will fill that hole in your heart, when you long for something you want so badly.

So, take the time today to count your blessings. Remember what you have right now. Don't waste your whole life wishing you had anything else. Remember that quote I heard and mentioned earlier, comparison is the thief of joy.

Count your blessings.
Dont compare.

Here's todays Bible verse!

Ephesians 2:4-5

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's grace that you have been saved!)

God made you. Uniquely. Beautifully. Intentionally. Purposefully. Wonderfully.

  2. It's so funny that you bring this up! This new year, I am trying to think and pray about a specific verse each day, for a week. Anyway, this week I chose Philippians 4:11.

It speaks of being content. That's honestly the root of wanting more. When you more and more, you're simply not content with what you have already. Like you said, "count your blessing."

When I read that, I was like "Wow! This goes with my verse, then I started singing Count Your Blessing. LOL!

Thanks for posting this, Gracie! It's a real encouragement!
