Karalee here, back with another weekly request! This one's from our very own Graciepopstar91 -- Darren and Heidi of We Are Messengers!
When I got my reference photo (shown below), I also did a bit of reading up on how We Are Messengers was formed -- it's a great origin story. 😊 I really enjoyed learning about it!
Once the reference photo (shown above 😉) was gathered, I started to draw... and guess what? I actually drew my own chibis! No base this time! 😄 *squeeeeeeeeeal!* I feel so happy and accomplished!
They're a little simpler in form this time, due to that fact, but I'm hoping it's a good kind of simple. Let's see what you think! 😁
I had so. Much. Fun. With the hair guys. Having a photo reference to draw highlights and lowlights from takes ALL the stress out of it!!
I primarily used the Reed brush on varying (but usually low) opacities. "WE ARE MESSENGERS" is written using the Twig brush, and "Darren & Heidi" was written using the Bamboo brush. The slight glow behind the letters was achieved by creating duplicates of the text and using the Gaussian Blur effect on it.
In other news, Heidi's dress gave me a spot of trouble when trying to get the correct shades of blue, and I had to make up a color for Darren's shoes, because the picture doesn't go down that far. (Come to think of it, I had to imagine the length of Heidi's dress, too, but a.) The style made it look like it'd be floor-length, and b.) Chibis are generally very forgiving in the area of height differences.)
If I could change anything now, I think I'd see if adding cute little mouths would improve anything. (It might make Chibi!Darren's beard seem a little less... odd, by giving it a place to belong.) Additionally, I would also make a light-colored splotch of background color for them to stand on, so we could more clearly see Chibi!Heidi's dark-blue shoes. (Which I also imagined the color of, it occurs to me.)
That's all I've got for this week! Next week is scheduled to be The Avengers, Part 1!
Bye! 😀 *waves*
