Blogger Request -- Adam Young!

So I get about ten zillion requests to draw Adam Young...

and of course, I go to Pinterest for reference photos.

Kind of a bad idea -- because I spend TONS of time looking at screenshots of his Twitter feed and quotes, even though I knew I had a project to do... then I found THIS little gem. And it all became worth it.

This is just -- so -- ACCURATE! I didn't even realize I needed this Tweet until I read it, but it's just so perfect! 😆

*pfft*-*snicker*-BAHAHAHAHA! Adam, I think I love you!! 😂 You have just successfully captured the spirit of every person who has ever said anything awkward, and let us know that we are not alone. (And also made us laugh. That is extremely important.) I love your hilarious stories about going to school, too! ("Mountain Dew!") 😁👍

Eeeeeeeeewwwwwww, oh no! 😝 Thankfully, I've never done that... but I do most of my painting digitally, so there wasn't much opportunity.

 (I almost drew a chibi based off this pic, what with the adorable tousle of hair, but then realized that there was barely any outfit to reference.)

I'm starting to wonder if maybe we're long-lost relatives. O.o There are some REAL similarities here....

That's it, I am officially a fan of Adam Young! 😄 (If I ever write him a letter, I'm gonna ask how exactly one pretends to be a pancake during an interview. These are things I need to know!)

And look, an almost-fullbody reference photo! Now I can draw a chibi!

But first, to find a base.... *rummages around in camera roll for something probably found on Pinterest months ago*

Ah! This'll work. Dunno about the flower, though.

And NOW to draw a chibi.

*rolls eyes* And after ALL that poking around after a fullbody reference photo, I draw a chibi that's just a head and half a torso. Figures. I love that suit, though. Velllllllllllvet. And not just ANY velvet, burgundy velvet. (Dangit. Now I'm craving red velvet cake. Nice.)

(This drawing was done on an iPad, using a cheap-o stylus bought at Fred Meyer's and the not-so-cheap-o app named Procreate.)

I'm really pleased with how it turned out! For the outline, I used the brush called Reed on a lowered opacity, and lots of the coloring was done with the Soft Brush (filed under Airbrushes), though I used low-opacity Reed for some of that too.

The low-opacity Reed brush especially came in handy for the blush on the sweet widdle chibi cheeks *uses baby voice*, and for the huge, manga-style eyes. How to make big, glittering eyes took me aaaaages to understand, but now that I've figured out how to make them, I'm starting to really, really enjoy it! 😁 The key to making sparkly, starry eyes is to put the lightest accent color in teeny-tiny dots on the darkest part of the iris, and nowhere else! ✨✨ 👀

I labeled the drawing "Adam Young", lest I look through my folder of Blogger-Requested Chibi Drawings in a few months' time and think it's a drawing of David Tennant. I made the hair insanely similar, and there's not much else to tell them apart by in chibi format. (Oddly enough, I also encountered a picture on Pinterest of Tennant wearing an Owl City T-shirt. o.O)
